Child Safety Standards — SomniTalk
Published 4 September 2026. These standards apply to somnitalk.com and to the SomniTalk Android app, which is the same community delivered as an app.
1. Who SomniTalk is for
SomniTalk is a community for adults on sleep-apnea therapy. You must be 18 years of age or older to hold an account (Terms of Use, section 2). Nothing on SomniTalk is directed at children, and we do not knowingly allow anyone under 18 to register.
2. Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation
SomniTalk prohibits, without exception, any content or behaviour that sexualises, exploits or endangers a child. This includes, in posts, images, private chat, profiles, usernames, avatars and links:
- child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, animated or AI-generated depictions;
- sexualised descriptions of, or comments about, minors;
- grooming, solicitation or any attempt to arrange contact with a minor for a sexual purpose;
- sextortion, trafficking, or advertising or requesting any of the above;
- links to, or instructions for finding, any such material anywhere else.
Any of these results in the immediate removal of the content and the permanent removal of the account.
3. How to report — in the app and on the website
Every member can report, and no explanation is required. A report of possible child sexual abuse or exploitation is treated as the highest priority we have.
- A post or reply: tap the flag icon under it and choose Report. The report reaches the moderators immediately.
- A member: open their profile and choose Flag Profile. Block User stops them from contacting you.
- A private message: report the sender's profile as above, and quote the message.
- By email: write to [email protected] with the link to the content. This address is read by the operator.
Members who report in good faith are never penalised, even if the report turns out to be mistaken.
4. What we do when we learn of it
When we obtain actual knowledge of child sexual abuse material or exploitation on SomniTalk, we:
- remove the content immediately;
- suspend the account and terminate it once the finding is confirmed;
- preserve the evidence — the content, the account details, IP addresses and timestamps — for law enforcement rather than deleting it;
- block the network address and register it with the anti-abuse services we use;
- report it to the authorities: in Canada, where SomniTalk is operated, to the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (Cybertip.ca) and the police as Canadian law requires; where United States law applies, to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline;
- cooperate with lawful requests from law-enforcement agencies anywhere.
5. How we try to prevent it
- A human moderation team reads reports and reviews held posts every day.
- Automated screening (SomniGuard) checks every registration, holds new members' first posts for review, and flags suspicious content and links.
- Uploads are limited in size and kind, and images are reviewed when reported.
- We do not currently run automated image hash-matching; our detection relies on member reports and moderator review, which is why reporting is made as easy as possible.
6. Compliance
SomniTalk complies with the child-safety laws that apply to it, including Canada's mandatory reporting law for Internet services (S.C. 2011, c. 4) and, where applicable, United States federal reporting requirements, and with the Google Play Child Safety Standards policy.
7. Designated point of contact
[email protected] is SomniTalk's designated child-safety contact. It reaches the operator of the board, who can speak to these standards, to our review and enforcement procedures, and to notifications from Google Play or from law enforcement.
