SomniTalk is not a source of medical advice
SomniTalk is a public discussion board. It is operated by SomniCharts Inc., a software company, and it is not a medical practice, a clinic, or a healthcare service of any kind.
SomniCharts itself — the application — is not a medical tool and not a medical advisory system. It visualises and summarises the data your therapy machine records. It does not diagnose, prescribe or treat, and neither does this board. Opinions expressed on SomniTalk — by members, by the editorial desks, or quoting the SomniCharts app — are opinions and shared experience, not medical advice.
SomniTalk and its operators:
- do not provide medical advice;
- do not diagnose or treat any condition;
- do not prescribe therapy, pressures, settings or equipment;
- do not clinically interpret sleep data;
- do not replace a licensed healthcare professional.
Everything on this board — staff posts, Library summaries, member replies, charts, and any automated analysis quoted from the SomniCharts application — is information and shared experience for general educational purposes only.
Members are not your clinician
Some members of this board are clinicians, sleep technologists, or long-experienced patients. None of them is your clinician. None of them has examined you, has your medical history, or carries any responsibility for your care. A confident answer from a knowledgeable stranger is still a stranger's opinion about someone they have never met.
Treat everything here as a starting point for a conversation with the professional who is actually treating you.
Do not change your therapy because of something you read here
Pressure settings, therapy mode, ramp, humidity, mask type, and whether to use the machine at all are clinical decisions. Changing them on the strength of a forum thread can hurt you, and can also make your data useless to the clinician trying to help you.
If something you read here makes you think a change is warranted: take it to your clinician and say what you saw. That is exactly what this board is good for.
Devices: no maintenance or adjustment advice
SomniCharts does not advise on the maintenance, servicing, repair, settings or adjustment of any therapy device, and nothing on this board should be read as SomniCharts doing so. Device maintenance and repair belong to the manufacturer and your equipment supplier; settings and adjustments belong to your clinician. A member describing what they changed on their own machine is describing their experience, not giving you instructions, and posts that read as instructions may be edited or removed under the Code of Conduct.
When to seek help urgently
Nothing on this board is an emergency service and nobody here is monitoring it for emergencies. If you have chest pain, severe breathlessness, confusion, blue lips, or you believe you are in a medical emergency, contact your local emergency number or emergency department immediately. Do not post about it and wait for a reply.
About the data and the automated analysis
Charts, statistics and automated findings — whether produced by your machine, by the SomniCharts application, or by its SomniDoc, SomniScan, SomniPattern and Somni-UARS features — are automated visualisations and observations, not clinical assessments. They are generated by software, they can be wrong, and they do not replace a diagnostic sleep study or a clinician's judgement.
Home therapy devices score events by their own manufacturer-specific methods. Two machines can report different numbers for the same night, and none of them is doing what a scored sleep study does.
Responsibility
Clinical interpretation and treatment decisions remain solely with:
- you, the individual;
- the healthcare professional treating you;
- and, where a clinic is involved, the clinic responsible for your care.
SomniCharts Inc. disclaims liability for any decision made on the basis of anything published on, or read from, this board. See the Terms of Use for the full limitation of liability.
